First Opportunity

Each year, Easter sneaks right up on us. It’s one of our busiest holidays each year, yet we are always caught completely off guard at JUST HOW BUSY. We are on it this year though, adding at least five reminders to the shared PJP calendar between Jason and I to be prepared for all the meringue pies on the horizon. (And there’s literally nothing you can do to prepare except talk about it a lot. And order a lot of egg whites. But that’s something.)

Here’s what else is going on::

  1. Lately, a big blue pickup truck backs into one of the best parking spaces at PJP Nifong and is there for HOURS. I’m suspicious that it is a new Subway employee, but none of us have seen the driver just yet. I’ve ruled out other destinations in our complex though, so we will see how the mystery unfolds. Ellery made the cutest 9th birthday posters and this truck blocks full view, so we are on a quest.

  2. Over at West, the city has just stopped picking up trash. For the second week, Jason has called to request pickup because the dumpsters are overflowing.

  3. Also at Nifong, we noticed that one of the ceiling tiles had been lifted and completely moved so that you could see up into the ceiling. CREEPY. I made Jason climb up on a later and stick his head up there to make sure no one was living up there because I saw a scary movie like that in the 1980s and it imprinted on my childhood brain enough that I’m still worrying about it all these years later. There was no person up there. As you might have guessed.

  4. The winner of last week’s Epic Pie Tasting was Orange Dreamsicle. It’s a cream pie made with orange juice concentrate and received glowing feedback. We will add it into the mix soon because it will be a great summer pie. (Also, one of my favorite Jason Isbell songs is “Dreamsicle”).

  5. And finally, just because you read all this way…here’s a fun announcement: We are celebrating our 9th birthday by bringing back a one time only special IN-PERSON EPIC PIE TASTING. Remember when we did that in a pre-pandemic world? In short, it’s next Saturday night and our whole family will be there. We are baking savory tarts for a little light dinner and then doing nine flavors for Epic Pie Tasting. (Nine because we are turning nine. See what we did there?). And also, we’ll do a champagne toast to PJP in her honor. Tickets are available here. We will announce it via email tomorrow but blog readers get the first opportunity to buy - only 35 tickets are available!
