The Gift That Keeps Giving
Earlier this week, I was invited to a 90th birthday celebration for one of our sweetest customers who comes to see me almost every week. And on the same day, someone posted on a Facebook group that they hate our business and our pie crust is awful. And if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times…the dichotomy of entrepreneurship will never cease to amaze me.
Here’s what else is going on:
Our December Pie of the Month is Eggnog Cream. It’s pretty magical if you like eggnog, but it does have rum in it and so it isn’t for our youngest PJP fans. We had been working on the recipe on a day when Jeanne was at home and when she came in the next morning, she ate a quarter of a pie and declared it her new favorite, even over Pumpkin Chiffon. So that’s either a ringing endorsement or it’s the rum for breakfast talking.
Our Best of 2023 Epic Pie Tasting has just a few tickets still available. This is our most popular tasting of the entire year because we reboot the 10 winning flavors from each of our previous Epic Pie Tastings. Some of the winners from this year eventually became pie of the month flavors, but others went back into the vault as ideas to consider in the future. I’ll be curious to see what flavor is named the winner from the 10 already winners. Whatever that flavor is will definitely have to be the January Pie of the Month.
I have no idea how it is almost 2024 and PJP will be 10 years old. I feel like we should be deep into planning something epic, but we are never good at that sort of thing. You need a healthy dose of self-esteem to throw yourself an anniversary party and while we’ve gotten a lot better at a lot things over the year, our self-esteem still tends to the fragile side. (Don’t think for a second that I’m not stewing around about “crust is awful” lady).
But before we can even get to anniversary celebrations, we need to roll through the Christmas holidays. We will keep our full menu available through the 21st and then we will switch to a curated holiday flavor menu for the 22nd and 23rd. We will be closed on the 24th, 25th, and 26th. This is the first time in forever that Christmas Eve has fallen on a Sunday and in all honesty, not working on Christmas Eve is the gift that keeps on giving, Clark.
And this has nothing to do with anything, but my Spotify Unwrapped ranks me in the top .1% of Jason Isbell fans. I was pretty pleased with myself until Ellery ranked in the top .05%. And in either case, I don’t think Jason Isbell knows that he is our bestie. Also, Spotify said that we should be located in Bozeman, Montana based on our musical preferences. PJP Bozeman could be a thing, right?
