Jeanne-ology: Hot Second

It’s Thursday of a very long week at PJP and I’m slowly becoming Jeanne because I spent all day thinking it was Friday. At any rate, Jeanne sent over a blog post with her thoughts on this week (and she’s worked a lot, so I bet she has a lot to say this week!). Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursday readers! A lot seems to be happening at the pie shop. Travis’ last day was Friday of last week. He is moving to Texas to pursue his dream job. He is not quite sure what that may be, but a lot of his family lives in Texas. He is excited to leave but also feeling sad that he is leaving Rebecca and I. We are sad to see him leave because he is a whirlwind unto himself and gets things done. He never complains about doing anything we ask of him. He is reliable and loyal to us. He has a great sense of humor which Rebecca and I appreciate. We have come to rely on him for many things and will be sorely missed. He may come back for Thanksgiving, and we hope so because he is great at organizing us and keeping on the schedule. He has a great personality and always in a positive mood. We are thankful to have had him for so many years. (Rebecca editing to add: His departure is slaying me. Travis has been with us since the PJP Buttonwood days and has seen us at our very worst and our very best. He is always apt to meet me at 4 am to start the baking schedule and we never run out of things to discuss, even if he is telling me about Lollapalooza or we are figuring out a timeline for producing 6,000 tarts.)

We are taking on new hires for the coming fall schedule. Getting them trained now before September orders are increased will help them and us during our busiest times. This year seems to be moving faster than usual. Maybe I think so because I am older and loose track of time. With school starting soon, it seems that the summer passed too quickly. Before we know, cooler weather will prevail and we will start moaning about the coldness. I love Missouri, but sometimes I am ready to move away to get away from the cold and the snow. Farmer's Almanac shows Missouri getting a lot of snow and ice this winter. (Rebecca editing to add: Sigh. I’m tired considering it all.)

Vacation seems like a year ago. The build up to leaving on vacation is wonderful, then the appointed time arrives and the whole week passed like a fast moving vehicle, whoosh! The week is over, back to reality. Heck, I could leave again for another vacation week. It isn't justified, we have a business to run, but once a year for a week away is not quite enough. (Rebecca editing to add: We are going to IBIE in Las Vegas in September, but she’s undecided if she wants to go or not, but clearly she needs to go.)

I thought about telling Rebecca and family that I plan on a permanent vacation and not come into the shop. They don't need me and I can entertain myself quite nicely at home. The only drawback is that I wouldn't be caught up on the daily activities. That's a bummer! (Rebecca editing to add: She would never last a a hot second being out of the loop.)
