Jeanne-ology: If The Hat Fits.

Well, it is already Thursday already and Jeanne has been on a tear this week. She climbed up on a ladder and cleaned the top of the refrigerator AND the fan on the refrigerator because it had been “bothering her”. Sounds right. Enjoy her take on the week! Rebecca

Hello Thursday Readers! Another week has passed. It's been a week since my sister was here and we both miss each other. She wants me and Rebecca and family to come down before Thanksgiving. She has suggested so many fun things we could all do and I know all of us would have fun. Then reality sets in, I reminded her that fall orders are rolling in and September begins our busiest season. Rebecca and I both know that we would be lucky to have two days off in a week. Heck, Rebecca works six days a week now. I feel bad that I can't, I just simply wear out. (Rebecca editing to add: Entrepreneurship is glamorous, you know?)

My grandson has started working a regular shift at PJP now that he has started classes at Mizzou. I am so proud of his work ethic. He was pleasant, did his job making pies, then dough, and cleaned up his mess! I worry about our young people that apply for a job. Most of them don't seem that being on time is important, asking for time off the first day they work, and look like they are a deer caught in the headlights if they need to communicate with our customers! Usually they don't last very long because of the aforementioned factors or the job is harder than they expected. Hats are off to those employees still with us and have become true team members. (Rebecca editing to add: Basically I’m like a farmer who lets his kids miss school to help with the harvest. Well, except my kids are going to school but the fall baking schedule waits for no one.)

This week has been busy! I have been floating around to fill any gaps in the baking schedule. I never know from day to day what position I will be filling until I show up in the morning. I enjoy watching over our pies that are being made and ensuring they meet our expectations. (Rebecca editing to add: Floating around is the best fit for her. This morning she latticed strawberry rhubarb and then opened cans of evaporated milk for me and then took an order on the phone and then investigated why one of our microwaves was acting weird…so then she tracked down the manual, decided she needed a part, ordered the part, and then decided she was ready to go. Whew.)

With my granddaughter in charge of merchandising, my grandson making pies and our dough, I feel no matter how short of staff we may experience, we will endure - mainly because we have an attitude of not failing. So we march forward, taking each day as it comes and dealing with shortages or problems as they arise. We realize that a business owner wears many, many hats. No matter what hat we may wear, we know that any hat thrown our way will fit! (Rebecca editing to add: See? She always thinks a hat is a good idea.)
