Is There A Memo?

Late this afternoon, Jason and I spent an hour scraping and mopping the floors at Nifong. The floor hadn’t had a full deep scrub since just before Thanksgiving and here is an important life lesson - if you open A LOT of evaporated milk cans using the commercial can opener while standing in the same space each time AND you spill a little bit of evaporated milk each time AND then let it dry AND wait two weeks to scrap it off, you’ll have a substance so sticky that SpaceX could source it to hold together a space shuttle on re-entry back into our atmosphere. Don’t ask how I know.

Here’s updates from this week:

  1. I’ve spent a lot of time on Etsy this week trying to source a new open sign for each store. The one at West is broken and the one at Nifong is fairly ratchet. You wouldn’t believe the options available. Forever now when people as me for entrepreneurial advice, I’ll start by suggesting that they don’t focus on their exterior signage first because most will give up after that introduction.

  2. We did order a neon open sign for West a few months ago because the lighting there isn’t all we hoped it to be. Again, I got it from Etsy so it is at least cute and not a bargain red and blue one from Sam’s. At any rate, it never worked. Finally Jason climbed up there to investigate and none of the outlets above our front windows at West have power. Nothing surprises me.

  3. We have a new pie - Candy Cane Crunch - that debuted today. We started thinking about New Year’s Eve and if we had any fun ideas, which turned into an experiment with White Chocolate Raspberry with champagne whip. Holly took the lead from there and developed six new flavors for us to try. As it turns out, champagne whip is weird, but Candy Cane Crunch is delicious if you like peppermint.

  4. No less than seven people this week purchased pies and asked if we had any free plates to serve It on. That’s never happened in eight years and now seven in one week. How is that possible? Was there a memo issued? Do we think people are going to Domino’s and asking for plates with their carryout pizza?

  5. And finally, we are hosting our PJP holiday party next week, wherein we will play PJP Olympics and have dinner. I’ll be sure to have plates for everyone though.
