It Was A Delight
One of our biggest goals for our eighth year of PJP is to figure out a way to have a two day weekend at least once a month. We’ve worked six days a week for at least 98% of the last 96 months. And usually on the seventh day, there’s plenty to be done - or at least obsess about - in our downtime. At any rate, I don’t regret all those hours because each has been an integral part in building our business through the years. But I do notice that it is significantly more difficult to maintain patience and cultivate creativity when there’s little time to do relaxing and fun things. It’s pretty amazing how a Sunday can be eaten away by household chores in prep for the next week.
So last month we took a Saturday and left town for the weekend. And today we took a day, spreading all of the mundane household chores over two days instead of one and taking a little time for relaxation. And let me tell you, IT WAS A DELIGHT. I actually went to get my hair colored without leaving a trail of flour behind me from my tennis shoes. Heck, I didn’t even wear tennis shoes. And I deep cleaned my closet, which had been weighing heavy on my mind. (I just realized this smacks of a perfect Jeanne day, actually.)
So, besides our goal progression, here’s what else is going on:
There are just a very few tickets left for the Epic Pie Tasting scheduled for May 26th. Pickups can be made at either store and you can purchase here.
That’s just before Memorial Day weekend. Don’t forget that we will be closed on Memorial Day in observance of the holiday. That’s usually a busy weekend for us, so definitely pre-order if you are planning on pies as part of your long weekend.
We are putting some thought into using our holiday weekend to paint PJP Nifong in a more similar color palatte to PJP West. Our daughter has long been opposed to the yellow on the wall, but I was able to dismiss her until I saw the cooler and calmer color palatte at West and now I’m apt to agree. The thought of painting it though…gah.
And that’s probably because we’ve painted Jeanne’s kitchen and bedroom and now she’s gone rogue and moved right on into the laundry room. She has even taken the hinges off her interior doors and painted those from early 2000s gold to and updated black. She has no mercy.
While we had a day off, she went to both stores and framed the poster art of our beer collaboration with Logboat. I’ve wanted to frame those and hang in both stores forever, but that sort of thing is not my strong suit. This though - this is where she thrives. It’s going to be super cute…even if on a yellow wall. Ahem.
