Our New Addition, Part Two

So yesterday I shared the story of our newest addition to PJP Nifong: a double door commercial freezer. And I mentioned how it was a completely easy, free of dramatics, and smooth sailing through calm seas process. Everyone was very excited about our new purchase and by “everyone”, I mean mainly us.

I got to PJP Nifong this morning and nothing in the freezer was actually frozen. While our older freezer was holding at a steady -2 degrees, our new freezer was holding steady at 38 degrees. So I did what any person does when faced with crisis: called my mom. Except Jeanne said she thought it should be holding at 32 degrees, so clearly she was just as confused as me about how it should all work.

So next I did the thing I hate the most…consulted the manual. I followed all the instructions but could never set it for less than 32 degrees. And that is when it occurred to me…

WAIT A SECOND, I THINK THIS IS A REFRIGERATOR.

Yeah. We’ve been owners of a new refrigerator for 24 hours, under the assumption it was a freezer. And ironically, we don’t even need a refrigerator.

I couldn’t even be mad they delivered the wrong unit, because it was actually hilarious. The company apologized profusely and we promised we weren’t upset because the refrigerator and freezer look identical and I’m the one that stood there for 15 minutes this morning before I even figured it out.

So this afternoon, our new refrigerator rolled out the front door and our new freezer rolled in. And it started at a toasty 81 degrees from the ride from Camdenton to PJP, but it was already at 14 degrees when I left the shop and was looking promising for a solid -2 by in the morning.

Cross your fingers.
