This One Is For Cody
Look, I know you waited all day to find out if Cody showed up or not to fix the refrigerator, so let’s start there:
CODY DID SHOW UP TO FIX THE REFRIGERATOR.
As I type this, the Nifong double door refrigerator has cooled itself down to a respectable 39 degrees. That’s a full 59 degrees less than the day over two months ago when I unplugged it from the wall because I worried the entire unit would catch on fire and burn PJP Nifong to the ground. And honestly, I’ve fought too hard for this place to let it all end with a malfunctioning refrigerator compressor.
Cody and I stood directly in front of the refrigerator with the doors open for a solid minute and I think he worried I might weep tears of joy. And then he said something that will forever endure him to me: “LET’S ALSO FIX THE THERMOMETER ON THE OVEN AND THEN SEE WHY ICE BUILDS UP IN THE FREEZER.” I hereby retract all of the Cody doubt that I had just a mere 24 hours ago. Jeanne always likes to say “well, you never know what a day might bring” and I largely roll my eyes at this but darn if she isn’t correct…at least in the case of Cody. Well, usually in the case of most things, actually.
So now PJP Nifong is back at 100% for the fall baking season. I’m almost afraid to type that sentence in case a freezer or faucet or washer senses optimism and decides to blow apart soon. Or honestly, the health inspector is due soon and she will probably have some new rule that hand washing sinks now need to be crafted only in countries ending in Y and only during months ending in BER and then shipped over in cargo containers, but only the ones that are painted purple and then held for an indeterminate amount of time at a port staffed only by workers on strike.
When I called Jeanne on my way home to report all the good news, she let me know that today she purchased a mini handheld chainsaw on the TikTok shop so she can trim some trees around her house. And you know who DOES NOT need a mini handheld chainsaw from the TikTok shop? Jeanne.
I wonder if Cody trims trees too.
