Jeanne-ology: It's Not Cellulite
Last night I dreamed that someone left us a one star Google review because our pie boxes aren’t watertight, so that’s how it’s going for me this week. But in good news, Jeanne is back to the blog after a multi-week hiatus. As you might guess, she has a lot to say. Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursday Readers! Yes, I am still alive! I have been out of circulation for many weeks due to some face, foot, and hand problems. This all started about two weeks before Easter. The right side of my face began to hurt and swell. Each day the symptoms seem to get a little worse. I thought it was a sinus infection and Rebecca had me in the doctors office before I knew what happened. She kept telling me that is was not a sinus infection because my face had swollen so much that my lips nearly disappeared and it the swelling was moving close to my right eye. Rebecca said it looked like cellulitis, I didn't believe her because I thought cellulitis was those fat dents you see. I didn't see any dents on my face! You're thinking of cellulite she shouted and then sighed. Oh, really, I said. Well, Rebecca was right and the Dr. confirmed it. The clinic gave me some super duper antibiotics and within a week, my face looked normal. (Rebecca editing to add: You really should have been there for the initial cellulitis/cellulite conversation. It will forever be a core memory.)
Thinking I was back to a normal schedule, my left foot (isn't there a movie named My Left Foot?} began to hurt and something was growing between my fourth and fifth toesI Having a shoe on that foot was causing a lot of pain and my entire foot was swollen so bad that I could not even wear so old, beat to death house shoes. Rebecca looked at my foot and gasped. It is cellulitis again!!! She demanded that I go to the emergency room at MU hospital. I actually did not argue because I was in so much pain. That was Easter weekend and they immediately hospitalized me. They ran so many tests to make sure the infection had not spread to my bones, did antibiotics and wound care on my foot. (Rebecca editing to add: I’ve learned through this experience that would care is NOT FOR ME.)
My foot is nearly healed and after a couple more visits to the doctor, I have been able to come into the pie shop. I feel so much better and thankful I can come into work. Although we have new staff members that I can't remember their names. Rebecca says I can't get their names correct anyway. (Rebecca editing to add: This is true…if she worked six days a week, so would ask me people’s names all the time. She needs a picture book with faces glued into it for easy reference like a toddler.)
Rebecca spoke to every doctor I saw! The last doctor we saw, she told him about a cyst on my finger, she mentioned that she thought I had sleep apnea and I had poor eating habits. I shot her a death stare, which didn't slow her down at all. Now I have a hand doctor calling me and appointment for a sleep study coming up. I am not letting her go to the doctor with me again! Enough is enough! (Rebecca editing to add: Whatever. If she goes alone, she tells them nothing of importance. Her face could be completely swollen and she would tell them she’s fine.)
I am so thankful I have a daughter who is demanding when it comes to my health. She is like a dog with a bone making sure to stay in contact with the various doctors and making sure I am taking my medications. My whole family, Jason, Hayden, and Ellery covered a lot of work during my absence. The blessings of having a family. I appreciate the staff that took extra shifts during my absence and their genuine concern about my health problems. Thanks to our customers that kept asking about me. Not everyone knew what was going on with me, but now everyone will know. Hopefully I will blog again next week and it won't be about health. I promise. (Rebecca editing to add: If I’m a dog with a bone, it’s because the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Felicia.)
