Not Jeanne-ology: Yaaas.
There’s no Jeanne-ology tonight because, quite frankly, I feared reminding her of the obligation to write a few words here. She likely would have considered running me over in the parking lot at the mention because even though it is Thursday, it feels like every day since Monday has run right into each other to make a big smashed up ball of pie baking and pie selling. And since we have over 2,000 tarts due in less than 48 hours, I couldn’t take the risk of her killing me and so, here we are.
We did take a few moments today to count how many Jelly Jars we have on order for next week and as it turns out, it is just a smidge over 800 as of right now. That’s what happens when you are focused on the day-to-day and then you realize that the clip that holds all the orders for next week has actually slid down the side of the refrigerator and on to the floor as the weight of the paper becomes too much. And then we panicked a bit because that is a lot of jars, plus all the other interesting things we are doing next week. (We are doing some non-interesting things next week as well, just because that’s how this all works.)
So what I’m saying is that we are doing a lot and next week we are doing more. And Jeanne is worn out (well, we all are). In our shipping this week, there were actually two packages being shipped to addresses in Columbia. The old version of me would have hand delivered those myself, saving the cost of UPS. And now…not this version of me. I printed out those shipping labels without a second thought and paid for those boxes to get on a UPS truck to a distribution facility in Columbia and back on a UPS truck to be delivered a mile from our store. I am certain this is how all empires start.
And the most ironic of all the mess of this week is that we’ve been ripe with creative ideas for pies, for events, and even for business ideas. That makes all the sense - be in a mess and think about adding to the mess. It’s my favorite thing about us.
