Jeanne-ology: You're Not Wrong
Hi There - today is Thursday and I likely speak for us all when I say THIS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST WEEK EVER. This feels like the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day when no one has any idea what day it is or what we are supposed to be doing. And frankly, I don’t care for it. And neither does Jeanne. Here is what she has to say:
****
Hello, Thursday Readers! Another week has passed and it has been exhausting! I am used to working long hours at the shop when we have big events or large orders coming up, but coronavirus has changed everything. The empty shelves at the grocery stores and our food orders being shorted (which creates chaos in the shop) is a huge mental fatigue. Since Mizzou has closed, we have lost several of our afternoon staff because they wanted to go home to their parents. Three other staff members have decided to self quarantine until the entire coronavirus is gone. Is that a month? A year? Who knows? I really hate you, coronavirus!!!!! (Rebecca editing to add: I’m a judicious user of exclamation points, but five really seems justified here.)
Even with all this mental stress, PJP has been busy. I am so thankful for your support to keep us open. I know we can make it through to the other side of this. Every day seems like an unknown for us, like it does for everyone in our country. (Rebecca editing to add: I’m thankful we are busy. But I just feel like I’m second guessing myself every single day, especially as we continue to lose employees to self-quarantine. I guess none of us know what to do, except buy toilet paper if we find some on the shelves.)
On the home front, I am encouraging my husband to stay home. This really isn't a problem. It is noon before he feels a pulse. He hates rainy or cold weather, so those two factors help convince him to stay home. If the weather warms and the coronavirus issue still hanging on, it will be more difficult for him to stay home. For myself, I am working at the shop but with some changes. I am not checking out customers or handling any money. Rebecca worries more about me than I do for myself. But then again, she stresses about EVERYTHING! We have had some mention to her that she should not let me come in and make me stay home. When she mentions this to me, I become irritated and remind her that I will make my own decisions about work. If at any time that I may feel ill, then I will stay home. The only advice she gave me, which was good, is to wipe down my steering wheel and keys. Now I carry Clorox wipes in my car. (Rebecca editing to add: Well, that’s a start.)
That's all about I can say about the coronavirus and the effect it is having on PJP. With your support, I know we will survive and before long, we will be planning on the fall menu. (Rebecca editing to add: I’m going to trust her on this one, for my sanity’s sake.)
By the way, my nails are a mess! Rebecca says it will be hard to find a nail salon open. Good grief! (Rebecca editing to add: This is sadly very true. A totally lame thing to miss in a global pandemic, I understand, but let’s be honest…manicures are super nice for feeling better in general.)
