On My Mind
When Jeanne visited for dinner last night, I sighed and said I was really going to have to muster up some energy for the week ahead because I was sort of worn out from the long hours we’ve been keeping. And she replied, “well, it’s about to get a whole lot worse with fall getting here”. I appreciate she never filters the truth. Ahem.
Here’s a roundup of what’s going on at PJP:
Ellery turned 18 last Thursday and if you’ve read here for long, you know that milestones slay me. Next week Jeanne will be 70 and then at the end of September, our son will turn 21. I’ll be taking to my bed in October to recover from the emotional gauntlet.
And speaking of Ellery and Jeanne, the Tik Tok they filmed of “Genie In A Bottle” has 355,000 views on Instagram Reels as of this post. It’s had over 100,000 views in the last 24 hours. It’s super weird to have a video of your mother filmed by your daughter in the hallway of your house viewed by over 350,00 people.
We hosted Epic Pie Tasting for August last Friday and the winner was Jeanne’s idea: Double Layer Pumpkin. Essentially, we filled a pie crust halfway with pumpkin, baked it, let it cool, and then covered it Pumpkin Chiffon. This is a conundrum because 90% of the 80 ticket holders loved it…but it isn’t an easy pie to make. At least six people wrote on their feedback form that it needed to be included on the Thanksgiving order form. Gulp.
And Thanksgiving is on the mind of a few…already we’ve been asked about ordering. October 1st is the magical day when orders open. Honestly though, Thanksgiving is always on my mind.
Finally, one of our Team PJP members changed his major in the first week back at Mizzou to math. So in November when we are trying to figure out how many cans of pumpkin I need to order if each can has 18 cups of pumpkin and there’s four cups of pumpkin in each batch that makes 1.5 nine inch pumpkin pies and we have 1221 pumpkin pies on order…well, now I know who to ask.
