Pi(e) Day 2021
If you’ve been around here for a hot second, then you already know that PJP is the Official Sponsor of the annual Pi(e) Day celebration on March 14th. I tuned out 96% of the information provided to me in high school about 3.14 pi and the calculation of it, so I find it so ironic that now I’m in charge of an epic celebration of an event even loosely related to math. And honestly, who cares about the math…let’s talk about the pie.
As in previous years, we will discount all dessert pies by $3.14. This applies to both the baby and nine-inch size. Right now, we’ve looked at our 2020 numbers and given those a healthy boost to account for our general growth as a company. While we don’t guarantee what flavors will be available, we are taking our final count and focusing on our most popular flavors. And as always, we don’t allow for any pre-orders in order to keep it fair for everyone. The whole point of Pi(e) Day is just to have fun, seriously.
So what’s new this year?
Three things:
We’ve created a Facebook event for Pi(e) Day. If you like and share the event, we are picking three random people who get to come in to PJP at 9:30 am on Pi(e) Day - that’s 30 minutes before we officially open. You’ll shop for whatever your heart desires and without the pressure of running straight to the White Chocolate Strawberry before someone else beats you to it. (Remember that show Supermarket Sweep and people always hauled directly to the large hams in order to boost their final grocery total? Pi(e) Day always feels like to me, minus the hams.)
Obviously, March 14th is a Sunday. We did have quite a bit of discussion over whether we should open on Sunday and do all of our baking that day. In the end though, we decided it would be odd and out of routine and not very like us, and so we decided our celebration is on the 13th. If anything, you’ll have more time to stock up on the 13th and then eat and enjoy on the 14th, right? Even typing this I question myself, but I suspicion this is because I like to make all of the people happy all of the time and there will be someone who googles “pie” on the 14th and then emails about their disappointment that we weren’t open on Sunday. Gah. I’ll spend the next 13 days wrestling around with this in my mind.
And finally, this will be our first Pi(e) Day in an official pandemic. Last year, our line in the store reached all the way to our back door. What a difference a year makes, right? So, this year we will put a limit on four people in the store at a single time. We will be sure to have someone at the door to count and plenty of help to move the checkout process along as quickly as possible. We’ve got a few pandemic events under our belt now and we haven’t struggled with long waits, so it should be smooth sailing through calm seas. (Even if we are celebrating a day early. Ahem. Don’t mind me. I’ll just be over here giving side eye to the 2021 calendar.)
So there’s everything you need to know about Pi(e) Day 2021. And the market value of hams.
