Jeanne-ology: Give Me a Recipe
Hi There - It is Thursday and Jeanne is here with her thoughts on the week. I’ll sneak in here and tell you that I’ve been given the all clear to share tomorrow just exactly what we were doing for our month long mystery adventure, so keep an eye out for that news tomorrow. Gulp, Enjoy Jeanne-ology! Rebecca

Hello Thursday Readers! Another week has passed so quickly! One day rolls into another and I am prone to forget what day of the week it is. I have never been a good time keeper and in a way, that is fine for me because everything comes as a surprise. For instance, Rebecca telling me and calling me several times to let me know that today is Thursday. Yes, yes, I will write the blog! Yet I found myself getting ready for bed and suddenly remembered that I needed to write the blog. (Rebecca editing to add: My whole childhood in one paragraph.)
The shop has been busy and we are still trying to incorporate some new procedures. We want to use caster sugar (super fine sugar) when we make the meringues, whipped topping and some cold pies. You can make your own by putting in regular granulated sugar into a food processor and grinding it until it is very fine. It is a lot of work - I recently ground up ten pounds of sugar and the day after ,we needed more. Whew, Rebecca found super fine sugar with our food broker and ordered fifty pounds. We will see how long that will last. It is much more expensive than regular white granulated sugar, so we need to make sure that this fine sugar is used for certain items. (Rebecca editing to add: She’s the only person that doesn’t have the patience to remember the day of the week, but she will systematically process 10 pounds of granulated sugar as an experiment.. It’s a charming quality.)
Pie tasting is coming up next week and I have been working on some new recipes. I enjoy working on new recipes. I collect cookbooks and sometimes I read them for mere enjoyment. Customers have shared their family recipes with me and I feel honored. Handwritten recipes from someone's mother or grandmother with written notes in the margins are the best! (Rebecca editing to add: She and Peg gifted me with a handwritten cookbook of all their favorite recipes when I got married and included all their notes on the back of each card. I use it all the darn time.)
I hope someday my grandchildren or great grandchildren will love recipes as much as I do. Even more I hope they like to cook and not buy pre-packaged food for their meals. (Rebecca editing to add: I feel like she will haunt them from the afterlife if they do.)
Thank you all for allowing our pies to be a part of your family's meal and hope to see you soon! (Rebecca editing to add: Whatever day you stop by, we will be happy to see you.)
