Jeanne-ology: Sand Is Overrated

Today is Thursday and I reminded Jeanne that it has literally been WEEKS since she’s stopped by and shared her thoughts. So here we go. Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursday Readers! Rebecca reminded me that is has been SEVERAL WEEKS since I have said anything! Yes, she is right! Sometimes I feel blank about anything to say. Rebecca can turn any small thing into a big conversation. She gets this talent from both of her grandmothers. The grandmothers never met a stranger and were very social. Rebecca inherited all their genes! (Rebecca editing to add: I think this is her calling me overly chatty. But, she’s not wrong.)

I can talk about our vacation this past week. I was very hesitant about vacation but I did not want to be alone for ten days without them. So I joined in and went. I can't remember the last time I have been away on vacation. It has been years. (Rebecca editing to add: She didn’t want us to leave, but she also didn’t want to go. Honestly until she rolled her suitcase out of her house, I didn’t know which she would choose.)

We rented a house (huge) with a private pool. All five of us had our own bedroom and bathroom. The house was three stories and also had an elevator! (Rebecca editing to add: This sounds fancy but for the most part, we yelled at each other all week to find out who left the elevator without closing the door. Without closing the door, you can’t make it go to another floor.)

The house was beautiful and met all of our needs. The kitchen had two dishwashers and Rebecca did her happy dance. I did my happy dance because I took the lower level, complete with being close to the pool. I basically lived by the pool, Rebecca, Jason and the kids loved spending time at the beach. I only went once after constant urging that I needed to be on the beach and enjoy it's beauty. Of course, the beach and ocean are fantastic, but I preferred my time in the house pool. (Rebecca editing to add: Mainly, she claims sand is overrated. Also, she didn’t mention it but there was a huge television by the pool where she could float and watch Netflix.)

It was such a joyful time with the family. We were all relaxed and didn't want to come home. That was the fastest ten days for us. We fought the rain coming back on Sunday and it seemed to match our attitudes that reality was setting in for us on Monday. Back to the daily grind and the pressures of being an entrepreneur. Being away from Columbia triggered a lot of new ideas and a new list of goals. (Rebecca editing to add: That part of the drive from Nashville to Columbia is only a bit over six hours in theory but in practice, it is 86,000 miles long.)

I was ready to reserve the same house for January 2023, but my son-in-law worried it would be too cold in January to really enjoy. I told him that in November and December, he will be pulling out his hair and wanting to get away. In January, when the weather is cold and possibly snow on the road, l will look at him and say " you should have listened to me!" No doubt he will roll his eyes! (Rebecca editing to add: I’m pretty sure by the time we all bake through the holiday season, we would agree to go literally anywhere that wasn’t in front of a set of convection ovens.)
