Of all the interesting changes to come of the last few months is the opportunity to take the Boone County Health Department’s Food Handler’s class online. And if you take the class, you’ll learn that a new employee has 30 days to secure a food handler’s card. And then if you are like me, you’ll learn the card expires after three years and you have to get another one or risk a getting a demerit for not having a current card. (Thanks for the lesson, 2017).
At any rate, it was time for a new card for me. And taking the course and the test online instead of going to the health department was 100% five-star, couldn’t recommend more experience. I was done super fast (mainly because I watched the same card renewal video in 2017) and I appreciated not being shoved into a room of people for an awkward in-person discussion of why buffets can be a poor dining decision. Personally, I hope this is one pandemic life change that sticks around forever. I’m already looking forward to the 2023 video viewing.
But in terms of things that COVID-19 has put a damper on: $5 Friday. Whenever the 5th falls on a Friday, we celebrate by selling $5 baby pies. And historically, this promotion brings long lines of people and a packed PJP. And you know what runs afoul of most local regulation right now? Long lines of people and packed storefronts. So, in effort to keep us all at a safe social distance, we are postponing $5 Friday until it is safer to congregate. Um, I guess we will call it the “WE ARE VERY HAPPY THE PANDEMIC IS OVER $5 PARTY” or something less wordy, perhaps.
Finally, here is something interesting for you: a Russian account on Instagram keeps mentioning PJP in their Instastories. And that is totally awkward because none of us speak Russian and so now I’m compelled to know - WHAT ARE THEY SAYING ABOUT US? This afternoon, a member of Team PJP installed a Russian keyboard app on her phone so that we could attempt to type the Instastory text into Google translate. Sadly, it was no avail, because we couldn’t figure it out. It does make you wonder though, right? What if the word “pie” just happens to be Russian for something completely unrelated? Or what if there is just a pocket of PJP super fans in Russia? I’m including the screenshot of the Instastory in case anyone here speaks Russian. Help us with our endless speculating. Please and thank you.
