Who Doesn't?
Both stores we really busy today, so much so that when I got home tonight, I found both pumpkin splatters AND Chocolate Chess splatters on my right sock when I took my shoes off. I don’t even know how that happens, honestly. At any rate, here’s an update on all the things going on at PJP:
We are participating in the annual Roots and Blues festival this weekend. We haven’t been in two years - it was cancelled in 2019 because of COVID and last year, we naively believed PJP West would open in September. We have several thousand tarts to make in the next few days, plus two stores to keep stocked at full capacity, plus two weddings this weekend. So honestly, just two flavors of pie on my socks is probably just the beginning.
Not long ago, we finally got the office door for West and it still doesn’t have the lock that we anticipated by last September, so we should have just went to the festival. Still no freezer either but the company is looking into “white glove service” with delivery, meaning they take it off the truck…which really seems like the last thing you would want to wear white gloves to do and therefore, I have little hope for a service with a dumb name.
Oh, and we have a Round Two epic pie tasting tomorrow. The one last week sold out so quickly that we opened a second date to accommodate ticket requests. We are doing the same flavors as last week and then we will announce the winning flavor. I think it is pretty safe to say that you’ll see at least two of them in stores soon.
We’ve plastered it everywhere but in case you didn’t now, Thanksgiving orders are now open. You can order for pickup at either store through November 12th.
October’s flavor of the month is pumpkin with bourbon cream. We offered it at Thanksgiving this year, but decided against it this year because of limited refrigeration space. We bake pumpkin pie, let it cool down, and make homemade whipping cream with a healthy dose of Maker’s Mark bourbon. I don’t like pumpkin pie, but I do very much like bourbon whipped cream. WHO DOESN’T?
