Where Dreams Go To Die...
Have you ever wondered where dreams go when they die? Pretty much, they go to the Boone County Health Department.
Yesterday, we were given the heartbreaking news that we can't hang pallets on the walls at PJP Buttonwood. I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to someone (I haven't figured out who yet) that the health department motto should be changed from whatever it is to "Protecting Food and Dashing Design Dreams" as soon as possible.
So what happened? The health department said no to our pallets on the walls. We had grand plans to paint the front 20 feet of our retail area in Benjamin Moore's Buttery Yam. Over that delicious color was going full pallets in an alternating grid pattern. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me that when I tell you that how we see those walls in our head is AH-MAZ-ING. We especially like the warm feeling of the wood in that industrial space and the texture the unfinished wood has against the stained concrete floors.
Sadly, it was not meant to be. The health department is not on Team Pallet. They are on Team You-Must-Be-Able-To-Wash-Everything-Down. And we partially agree...the walls in the pie baking area should be covered in an easily cleanable paint. But the front area for shopping and pie buying? Hmpf. NOT BUYING IT.
Goodbye pallets of our dreams...you were beautiful if only in spirit.
Up next, Plan B. What's Plan B? We have no clue. We refuse to budge from Buttered Yam and so it is going on the walls tomorrow without question. But other than that, we aren't sure. For the record, the health department also isn't down with burlap on the walls or wood planks making a grid pattern on the wall or wood planks wrapped in burlap making a grid pattern on the wall.
Things we sorta of like...
Patina walls...
Stenciled walls...
Wood in a grid pattern and then painted...
Or maybe none of these walls?
We are starting on the paint after our Lucky's delivery in the morning. Send us your good vibes - they are letting us use their electric lift and that promises all sorts of adventure. We will be doing primer and at least two coats of paint, so anyone with a spare paintbrush or an inclination to bring cocktails...you know where to find us.
