I'll Need A Receipt...
It likely won't surprise you that categorizing expenses in Quickbooks is not my strongest skill. For the better part of three years, I've ignored the task and allowed our original accountant to do the categorization as she saw fit. So when that relationship ended and we started a relationship with Robin Wassman of Wassman CPA Services, she called me out pretty quickly on my tendency to ignore relatively easy tasks on my theory of "meh, sounds complicated and boring". Which is precisely how I wound up in her office at 10:30 this morning for a crash course in Quickbooks and an assignment to categorize every PJP expense since January 1st. And look, I could leave a five star review on Robin's business Facebook page or I could just tell you now that I basically love her. She explained Quickbooks simply and immediately shut down all of my elaborate justifications for avoiding the task. In short, I'm considering also asking her to be my life coach. (She probably doesn't drink two venti iced coffees a day or dedicate a portion of her day to being righteously indignant about any number of things. And even though I do, I feel like she wouldn't judge me for it.)
So this afternoon, I completed her tasks and categorizing all that stuff wasn't difficult at all. It was rather eyeopening though and some of it, I frankly wish I didn't know. Quickbooks is sort of like The Butterfly Effect...once you have all the knowledge in your life, everything else is altered. In the morning, I'm starting a full scale inquest into whether we actually NEED to have Cintas replace our rugs every three weeks for an additional $28 charge each time since we vacuum those rugs at least once a day. Basically, I'm one credit memo away from buying myself a clipboard and demanding receipts on the regular.
Here's a few other things...
- It is Teacher Appreciation Week and I'm completely certain that any teacher in your life would prefer an apple sliced up and baked PJP style than just raw. Just saying.
- According to the Small Business Administration, this is National Small Business Week. I'm waiting for a notable tax credit as a thank you from the government, but I think the SBA just had a normal week in mind. Because of course they did.
- This Friday is $5 Friday at PJP, which just means all baby pies are $5. This isn't a national holiday yet, but I have big hopes for the future.
- It's also Cinco de Mayo, which really doesn't have anything to do with $5 Friday except to say I like my margarita on the rocks and will probably need at least two after we bake 800 or so baby pies on Friday.
- Next week is Nurses Appreciation Week, National Hospital Week, graduation at Mizzou, and Mother's Day. Coincidentally, May is also National Arthritis month. And frankly, after we roll and flute all the dough for all of these big events over the next few weeks, we will likely have a touch of arthritis, so that works out well...
