Chef Jeanne.
Well, here we are in 2020…which actually sounds ridiculous because it was only a few years ago that I was watching Sex In The City and partying like it’s 1999. And while I’m usually pretty melancholy about the end of a year, we were so busy at PJP in the weeks leading up to the end of the year that I didn’t really have time to dwell. (Honestly, for the sake of us all, I need to be too busy to overthink things all of the time.)
I feel like so many little things have happened over the past few weeks that are worth a mention, so here you go:
We opened ticket sales for January Epic Pie Tasting and a Galentine’s Event in February and both sold out in less than a morning. Whew…I think people have missed the monthly pie tastings, don’t you? While we could barely squeeze in 20 guests at PJP Buttonwood, we sold 30 tickets to the tastings at PJP Nifong and are certain that we can all sit comfortably.
Raise your hand if you are certain that I had to explain Galentine’s Day to Jeanne. (Also, if you say to her “uteruses before duderuses”, she will understand the point of this event even less.)
We also created a Facebook event for National Pie Day on January 23rd. Every year I’m flummoxed that the National Pie Council doesn’t move this day of observance to March 14th, but WHATEVER…we will just have twice the fun. As is our custom, we will sell tarts for $2 each all day on the 23rd, no coupon code needed.
I’m headed to Atlanta late next week for the January Home & Gift Market to replenish PJP Nifong with new merchandise, as not much is left after the holidays. I’m working to convince Jeanne to go with me and I’ve purchased her plane ticket (with cancellation insurance), but she a) hates all travel, and b) reminds me that when I went last year, I walked 17,000 steps in one day. She did buy herself a new suitcase at the annual Dillard’s sale on New Year’s Day, so she might surprise us all.
But where I’m not surprised is Jeanne’s nomination for Pastry Chef of the Year in the Feast magazine Feast 50 awards. PJP is also on there for bake shop of the year. Voting is open through February 3rd, so if you think of it, vote early and often. Referring to her as Chef Jeanne would legitimately make our year.
