Jeanne-ology: Jaws

It’s Thursday and I expected Jeanne to completely avoid the blog as payback for us posting her on TikTok mopping herself into a corner earlier this week. Alas, she surprised me and sent a post over early today (I think she actually likes her low key TikTok fame and really, who wouldn’t?). Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursdays Readers! I hope your week has been going well for you! This time in August is somewhat slow for us. Rebecca is reviewing the college student's schedules and who is not going to be able to work on what days and what hours. Thank goodness she does the schedule. I compare it to a huge chess board and moving the pieces (employees) around so that it is a win-win situation for all of us. I get dizzy looking at the names and when they can work. (Rebecca editing to add: Is this where I admit that I don’t know how to play chess? Or is it better just to say that it takes several hours a week to do the schedule?)

Whew! What a hot mess! (Rebecca editing to add: Amen, Sister.)

This missive will fairly short, because there is not much going on. However, we can feel the pressure mounting for the onslaught of fall and the holidays. It feels like the theme song to the movie, Jaws! Just as the music is mounting before we see the shark, the pressure is mounting for September. (Rebecca editing to add: We probably decided we needed a bigger store because the people in Jaws needed a bigger boat.)

In September, we will begin to see more orders. (a possible shark sighting far in the distance). October arrives and orders are increasing by the day. Pressure is great and mounting (like seeing the fin of the great white shark). We work harder and longer to stay on top of things. November rolls in, panic on the number of orders that have come in, do we take any more orders or what? Our minds are in overdrive thinking how we are going to accomplish success. The shark is now circling us! The boat may seem like it is sinking, but we still on board, determined to accomplish our goals. At this point, there is little sleep and high anxiety! (Rebecca editing to add: She’s really thought this metaphor through. Respect.)

At last, Thanksgiving day arrives and we still alive. Battered and beaten, we grin and cry because we succeeded! Making it through Thanksgiving is always a victory lap and the few days afterward, we are eating, sleeping and healing. (Rebecca editing to add: Also, questioning our life choices. But that’s a given.)

I was speaking with Rebecca this week and told her how thankful we are that we are doing something we love, we work long hours on our own schedule. t is the best dam job in the world! (Rebecca editing to add:: That’s probably what Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Schneider thought too, I KID.)
