Jeanne-ology: Linen Dress
Hi There! It’s Thursday and after a long hiatus, Jeanne is BACK. Here’s her thoughts on the last few weeks!
*****
Hello Thursday Readers! I wrote a blog last week and then our power went out a little after 4 pm and it wasn't even raining! Of course, I thought the power would come back soon, so I could re-send the blog later to Rebecca. I never did resend the blog because our power was out seven and half hours!!!!!! No kidding! My husband is on oxygen and there was a lot juggling going on to switch to his portable tanks. We went to bed early because of boredom! At 11:45 pm, he wakes me up to say the power was back on. Getting up and switching him off the portable oxygen, turning out all the lights, and yada, yada, made for a very short night. (Rebecca editing to add: At one point, my kids and I sat in my car in the driveway to charge our phones and watch Netflix because we were so desperate for entertainment. 2021 problems.)
My blog for last week was about Rebecca and her family on vacation. I was happy to see them get away from everything, but a nervous wreck on managing the shop. It seemed that if anything was to go wrong, it did. A front cooler that stopped working, a printer that would print our daily orders had problems, to some staff not coming in, not being able to get into Rebecca's computer because I accidentally shut it off and didn't know her passcode to open the computer! Geez, Louise! I am so dependent on Rebecca running the show. She probably encounters these obstacles frequently but I never know about it because she takes care of the problem right away. (Rebecca editing to add: Her name is LITERALLY on the front of our store, but she always doubts herself and I never understand why. Non-working freezers are her wheelhouse, though printers sense her fear.)
I was a little salty in the blog last week. Why don't Rebecca and her family stay home for their vacation? Heck, the ocean may have sandy beaches, beautiful sunsets and great seafood, but Missouri has a lot to offer. We also have great sunsets and we can cook great seafood. The only thing missing is a sandy beach! However Sunrise Beach is about two hours away and they could have laid out all day to get that perfect tan! Staying home, we could have played card games (notice the we) and they could have slept in and watched movies all day. Maybe Rebecca was worried that I would have called her too much with questions? Maybe she thought, I would be coming over to her house every night to recap the the pie shop activities. Who knows? (Rebecca editing to add: She has always travelled like a linen dress - fine in transit, but a big mess when she gets there. I don’t remember a single time in my childhood wherein she’s enjoyed going anywhere because she thinks home is the greatest place. I am assigning her 1,000 bonus points for her appropriate and hip use of “salty”.)
The point is that I did fine that week they were gone, I missed her terribly and so glad that she manages the pie shop. I could feel my whole body and mind relaxing on the Sunday they arrived home. I don't think I could go much longer by myself without having a hissy fit and a total breakdown. If so, most of our staff would freak out and quit. Thank goodness I kept it together! (Rebecca editing to add: Of course, she did just fine. She doesn’t even need us - she just THINKS she needs us there. Except when it comes to the printer…I’ll agree with her there.)
