Jeanne-ology: Need To Know Basis
Well, it’s Thursday and I texted Jeanne around 5 this afternoon to ask about her blog post for the week. When she hadn’t responded by 7ish, I assumed she had forgotten and was fast asleep because her bedtime is sundown. Now it is 9 pm and she just texted me that she emailed the blog post, so I think the better mystery for discussion is WHY IS SHE BLOGGING TWO HOURS PAST HER BEDTIME? I can’t wait to find out. Enjoy! Hello Thursday Readers! Another week has passed so quickly but that is okay. We have been so busy with pie orders that one day tumbles into another. We have started taking Thanksgiving pie orders and they are rolling in. I doubt our new location will be open for Thanksgiving, but then again we will have to wait and see. (Rebecca editing to add: She is exceptionally zen about the buildout of PJP West End in a way that I’ll never be.)
Fall is my favorite time of the year. The cool nights and warm days causes me to have so many memories of growing up. I grew up on a farm in southeast Missouri. We grew soybeans and rice. My sister and I would drive the grain trucks to the grain elevator and return to the field for another load. We had fun and didn't see it as work. Our mother would always have a huge dinner prepared for us at the end of the day. I wish I could go back and spend a week. The times certainly felt more easier than what we are seeing today. I guess those days will never return again. (Rebecca editing to add: That she drove a grain truck with zero hesitation at 20 years old is completely on brand for her..)
We have six weddings this Saturday along with Mizzou homecoming. Looking at the schedule, I told Rebecca we might as well plan on staying overnight on Friday. We would rather be prepared when the doors open Saturday morning in lieu of running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Tired and prepared is always better than panic. (Rebecca editing to add: Spoiler alert: it took us like five years to figure this out.)
Today Rebecca mentioned that we have 4.000 tarts due the weekend before Thanksgiving! Oh, my goodness! We also have TWENTY THOUSAND PLUS tarts due in December. I wish I didn't know any of this. Every day is a new day and I can face what ever is going to happen at the pie shop. But knowing what monster orders that are approaching makes my head spin. I do need to say that I am very, very thankful for the orders, that's the reason PJP exists. I just need to tell my body that in January, I will get some rest. (Rebecca editing to add: I forget that she operates solely on a need-to-know basis and that occasionally, I overwhelm her with information. We will have two stores in January, so I’m not banking on a lot of rest…but like I said, NEED TO KNOW BASIS. Let’s hope she doesn’t read here.)
