No Dull Days
This story proves there is never a dull day at PJP. Ever.
Yesterday, Jeanne fell in her yard. She tripped over her weed eater and landed with a thud on the motor part (thankfully, it wasn’t running). She will be the first to tell you that she is clumsy by nature and when she falls - which is often - it is always in some completely random scenario that the average person never experiences. She texted me last night to tell me, but when I talked to her this morning, the pain on her left side had gotten MUCH worse. We called her primary care doctor who suggested I take her to the Emergency Room for x-rays and a cat scan.
Gah. It was so stressful because I was worried about her, but then also worried about the safety of taking her to an emergency room during COVID-19. And when we got there, I wasn’t allowed to go in with her. I totally understand the precautions, but it was hard to see them wheel her away. I was also compelled to write down everything I felt like she wouldn’t tell the doctors that they needed to know. There’s 100% likelihood that the nursing student who was driving her wheelchair found me super annoying, but Jeanne always leaves out important details, like that she had life-threatening blood clots three years ago.
The nurse called a few hours later to update me. Jeanne was all ready to go home. She broke the seventh rib on her left side, so she is pretty miserable currently…but thankfully, she didn’t do any other serious damage. I got her pain medication prescription, an order of Nachos Bianco from Addison’s, and helped her to her couch to watch Unorthodox on Netflix with strict instructions to not move, clean, or carry things around. (We will see how that goes.)
It appears that it takes about six weeks to recover from a broken rib. She says she will be back in two weeks. Hmmm. PJP is never the same without her, so I selfishly hope for the two weeks, but I think this might take some time to recover from.
In the meantime, I’m going to make her a lot of food, help her clean her house, and call her a lot about PJP. Oh, and find someone to weed eat her yard. Seriously.
