Jeanne-ology: On A Monday
It’s Monday, but last Thursday Jeanne sent me her weekly blog series and I never posted it because I left my laptop sitting in the office at PJP Nifong. She was very put out with me, so I’m posting it today. We are already all confused because of the time change, so I’ll just throw in some days of the week confusion as well. Jeanne-ology, written on a Thursday, posted on a Monday. Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello Thursday readers! A couple of weeks has passed and the only changes at the pie shop are we are deeper into Thanksgiving orders! Bagging pie fillings (dry ingredients) so we can move faster by just grabbing a mix and dumping it in a bowl to start the process. There isn't much more we can do except make sure we have plenty of ingredients on hand and stamping out 9" pie shells and putting them in the freezer. Of course, freezer space is at a premium and it seems every day we are arranging things around to stock even more onto the shelves. (Rebecca editing to add: This is her passy-agressy way of saying we need a walk-in freezer and I cut them both from the budgets at both stores because those suckers are expensive. To which she would say, “they practically pay for themselves in efficiency” and I would say “yeah, but you have to be able to pay for them” and then she would sigh.
I have been busy with our savory and quiche pies. Every time I think I have over stocked the savory case, the next day there are empty spots on the shelves. (Rebecca editing to add: Can you imagine how helpful a walk-in freezer would be here?)
Today, I almost had to crawl out the back door when I was ready to leave. I bought some new tennis shoes about two months ago and they need to go! Rebecca insisted I try a new brand that she is crazy about and swears her legs and feet feel so much better after a day of standing. So, she helped me order a pair and they should be here on Monday. (Rebecca editing to add: Hokas for the win.)
My dog, Sister, and I sure have been enjoying the warm weather. I am not ready for cold weather and we enjoy sitting out on the patio. In fact, that is where I am now. Sister, doesn't want to go to bed when I do and stays outside. Just about after an hour of sleep, she wakes me up barking at the patio door wanting to come in. It drives me nuts because that hour of sleep is like a power nap and once I get up to let in her in, I am awake. It will take me another hour or so to want to go back to sleep. Of course, Sister is laying on my bed snoring. She is an older dog and sleeps most of the time. I wish I had her sleeping habits. She is sleeping now on the patio, all sprawled out! (Rebecca editing to add: Honestly they both have weird sleep habits, so it works out for them.)
Rebecca will be calling me between and 4 and 5 p.m. on her way home. She will tell me of any news that happened this afternoon at the shop and what to expect for tomorrow. Another day in the pie shop living the dream! (Rebecca editing to add: It was more like 5:30 today because we’ve hit the time of year where leaving in the dark is the norm and there’s more to do than hours in the day.)
PS: A lovely lady named Deborah Bennet left me a package at the shop. I was shocked to see what a wonderful gift she give me. It was a garden seat that I can use when planting flowers or any other yard work! I haven't seen her at shop since she left the package and this is the only way to shout out a big THANK YOU!! Our staff couldn't believe I received such a wonderful gift and asked what I did to deserve such a gift from a customer. NOTHING, I know about. I am still in awe that Deborah gave me a gift. I don't have and can't find her address or phone number to give her a proper Thank You! So, Deborah, if you are reading this (I hope you are) a million thanks for your generosity and making a old woman feel good.
