Plan A, B, C, D
There isn’t much interesting to say about a Monday in mid-August, except that our food truck arrived at 8:47 this morning (instead of early afternoon) and it was the legit highlight of my day. You really think it wouldn’t matter much, right? But this is the first Monday of 2020 that I haven’t gone to buy bananas at Hyvee because the truck hadn’t arrived by the time we were ready to make banana cream pie, so I’ll take my victories where I can find them.
Here’s what else is going on:
Our August Epic Pie Tasting (Pandemic Style) sold out in less than 30 minutes today, which could be a new record. Since Roots & Blues (and most everything else fun) has been cancelled for September, I’m leaning toward two epic pie tastings on the calendar for September. We’ll see.
Last Saturday’s Ice Cream Social event was super fun and definitely worth a repeat in the future. Our day did start off with Jeanne driving to the downtown post office AND the Lemone Industrial Blvd post office location on the hunt for the cups and lids I ordered from Amazon for the event. Except no one could find them and then once they found them, the boxes couldn’t be released to us because they hadn’t been scanned yet.
So then Jeanne went to Party City as Plan B and FaceTimed the rest of us working at PJP Nifong. Watching her walk through the store on the hunt for an item was so entertaining that I forget I was worried about the missing cups. She found some, but they were $1 each and I said no because that is ridiculous for not even having a lid. She was low-key annoyed with me, but went on to Sam’s for Plan C. Where she also had no luck. In the end, we just used baby pie tins and boxes, which was Plan D.
And last week was long and frustrating week at my house for a myriad of reasons, mostly unrelated to PJP. So yesterday we went to the Lake to spend an afternoon on the boat. The whole goal was just to relax…and we did. But when we got back, someone at the marina recognized me from PJP. WHILE I WAS WEARING A SWIMSUIT. It may have been the longest moment of my life. Gah. Zero out of 10 stars for stressing about my upper thighs out and about in public.
But in better news, something I wrote has been selected for discussion at the Facebook Leadership Group fall meeting. It was originally scheduled for early October in Washington DC, but now will take place in early October in my office via Zoom. (Thanks, Coronavirus). At any rate, today Facebook emailed and asked for a headshot to include in the presentation. All I could think was how thankful I was for last week’s photoshoot with Silverbox. And that I wouldn’t be wearing my swimsuit in the photo.
