Time Is A Gift

Always as we start into early spring, I think of the long days we spent building out PJP Buttonwood in March 2014. For a good portion of it, we listened to The Avett Brothers on a cheap radio while we cleaned and painted. To this day, if I listen to any song from the 2013’s “Magpie and the Dandelion”, I’m completely transformed to those chilly March mornings in 2014 when Jeanne convinced me we could lattice weave burlap all over the walls like an enormous pie. (Spoiler alert: It didn’t work. But it forever will be one of my favorite PJP memories because it captures just how bold- and ridiculous - we were at the time.)

(My other thoughts about that time are mainly how out of routine we were and how much I struggled against that change. We worked seven days a week and I felt completely lost without a standard Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm routine. Nine years ago today, the store was a mess and we were painting Elmer’s glue onto the walls from a five gallon bucket. It just about slayed me then and now I wouldn’t think twice about gluing stuff to the wall while Jeanne drove a scissor lift with a commercial vat of glue. Time is a gift.)

Let’s catch up on everything else:

  1. We hosted a Boozy St. Patrick Day’s Epic Pie Tasting last Friday. We had a tie for the winning spot between Chocolate Guiness Cream and Bailey’s Irish Cheesecake. Actually, I thought both were delicious, so it is hard for me to choose which will be the next pie of the month. The loser was a gooseberry with a honey whiskey. And honestly it had quite a few fans in the survey results, just not near as many as the two winners.

  2. Later this week we have a gluten free Epic Pie Tasting and I think just a few tickets remain, so round up your gluten free friends and tell them you’ve found the best activity ever. And then our regular monthly Epic Pie Tasting is next week and there are just a few tickets left for those. It’s a fun activity for people doing a staycation over spring break.

  3. Easter pre-orders are now available online. Easter is always one that catches us off guard…it’s significantly busier than we ever remember. I would guess the odds of walking in to either store and purchasing a White Chocolate Strawberry, Coconut Cream, Chocolate Cream, or Lemon Cream on the day before Easter to be very low, so pre-order is key. Remember too we only do meringues on special order and Easter is our busiest meringue holiday. I literally have no idea why.

  4. In April, we are celebrating our 9th birthday with Cake Batter pie as the flavor of the month. Jessi has been working on the most perfect of cake batter flavors and she made several today that we could photograph. I actually had to go work in the office before I proceeded to eat an entire baby pie.

  5. And remember when we worked 60 hours a week in 2014 because we didn’t have any staff? It’s starting to feel like that again unless we can add on to Team PJP asap. If you know anyone interested in working 8-12 or 2-6 at least four days a week, the application link is available online. We are growing like crazy and that means we need more people to help build World Pie Domination. (Also, you get a discount AND health insurance is an option AND we have the nicest staff you’ve ever met, so I literally don’t know how to make us more attractive.)
