Jeanne-ology: What Day Is It?

Hi There - it’s been a hot minute, but Jeanne is back with Jeanne-ology this week. I told her it was part of her duties as the reigning Top Pastry Chef and thankfully, she went along with it. Enjoy! Rebecca

Hello, Thursday readers!  I absolutely had nothing to write about last week and even if I did, it wouldn't have made a difference because I forgot it was my turn to blog! So now I will bring you up to date with what's been happening.  (Rebecca editing to add: Jeanne literally never knows what day it is, pandemic or not. I worry about everything possible and she isn’t sure if today is Thursday or Friday. We balance ourselves well.)

I was at PJP yesterday and did a small amount of baking.  I enjoyed myself and it felt good to do some baking and be with the staff.  I like to play jokes on the staff and in return, they played jokes on me. We were having a good time except Rebecca chastised us for being too loud. We did tone it down with the laughter while we had customers and then the volume would rise when there were no customers in the shop.  Playing like that reminded me of when the grandkids were little and I could always come up with a funny story for them.  They would laugh uncontrollably and it was always the highlight of my time with them. To this day, they can remember so many of the stories and playtime we had together.  They are much older now and cannot be entertained with silly antics.  However, my time spent with them is still entertaining. (Rebecca editing to add: I fussed at them at least twice while a customer was in the store. I’m sure whomever was shopping at PJP between the hours of 1 pm and 2:30 pm yesterday wondered WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS GOING ON in the dough room.)

I bought a new car over the weekend.  My old Ford Explorer was having death rattles and well over two hundred thousand miles on it. Rebecca and the family kept telling me that it wasn't safe to drive and to get rid of it.  The back windows quit working and the radio was having severe problems. However, it was great on gas mileage and I kept driving it.  Other mechanical problems arose and it was not worth the cost to repair.  I really enjoy my new SUV and feel a little sad to see my old Explorer not in the garage. It is funny how attached we can become to cars.  (Rebecca editing to add: That thing needed to go. I don’t miss it. Or seeing her drive it.)

I appreciate all the well wishes for winning best pastry chef .  Goodness, I never thought I had a chance because I do not have any formal training in pie baking!  Rebecca mentioned in her blog that she didn't know where my mother learned to bake and I couldn't believe she didn't know.  Maybe I need to search my mind for other info that she may find interesting. (Rebecca editing to add: She needs to write a book of interesting facts and tips. I would read that, wouldn’t you? She could have an entire chapter on best ways to use a razor blade.)

Starting next week, I plan to return on a daily basis at the shop.  I really do feel fine and miss being with Rebecca and the rest of the crew.  My husband dreads my return because of our morning routine of drinking coffee, listening to the news and just being together.  I will also, but I am beginning to feel old just sitting around the house.  The only cure is to get busy and PJP is the solution! (Rebecca editing to add: We will see. If she does decide to come in, please ignore any shenanigans you might hear at PJP Nifong in the early afternoon hours. I promise I’ve already told them to be quiet.)
