What Else

As you likely know, the Columbia City Council is considering an ordinance that would require every person in Boone County older than 10 to wear a face mask when in public and when six feet of social distancing can’t be observed. Under the ordinance, employers are liable for a $100 fine per employee if the employee doesn’t comply with the ordinance. So, like most people tonight, I’ve been watching the livestream of the meeting with some personal and entrepreneurial interest. And as I write this, all I can say 2020 is a bizarre time to be alive. And look, Behind-The-Scenes Jason caught a bat in our kitchen late Saturday night. SO WHAT ELSE.

(Give me a bat over a snake any day, really. The whole time I watched him try to scoop the bat Into a box and take it outside while wearing oven mitts, I really just kept thinking “welp, at least this isn’t a snake” and I think that best sums up my life position right now.)

So, here’s some updates:

  1. We were super busy last Thursday and Friday in anticipation of the Fourth of July holiday. We also were smooth sailing through calm seas, which is no easy feat. I think our communication was 100% as a team on Friday and it showed.

  2. We also had a person dedicated to washing dishes on Friday and it was a GAME CHANGER. Our general rule is that when you create a load of dishes, you wash that load of dishes. In conjunction with the city’s CARE program, we have a person available for the summer to just do dishes and anything else we need. It is the best and we are appreciative to be a part of the program. I never thought I would say this because Jeanne and I have tussled about it for years, but we are hiring a dishwasher in September. Let’s just hope they don’t ask how busy we are for Thanksgiving before we hire them.

  3. The plan was to have a little social distanced outside gathering at my house on Friday night for fireworks, but we were all too tired to even follow through. And that’s the nice thing about living the same reality with PJP, some days are just that way.

  4. Plus. I didn’t have time to cook. And there were no pies left in the store to eat for dinner.

  5. On Saturday, I took FULL ADVANTAGE of a physical and mental break from PJP and I binged Lenox Hill on Netflix. This docuseries follows doctors at Lenox Hill hospital in New York City. SO GOOD. I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you are super keen on stories of leadership and human relationships. 5 out of 5 stars, fully recommend.
