Dumpster Fire

My head has hurt for two solid days and I can 100% testify it is because everything is the world is worrying me. On Monday, a local news station aired a story about the impact of COVID-19 on businesses in Columbia. The reporter apparently used our storefront as her B roll footage, prompting several questions from customers about if we had been exposed or were suffering some sort of negative impact from the pandemic.

GAH. I’m so appreciative to those who alerted me to the story, because I knew nothing about it. And my computer was basically on fire as I typed my email to the news director at the television station to ask about the story. I hadn’t seen the footage, but I’ll take a hard pass on our name and Coronavirus in the same sentence. He apologized profusely for any confusion - apparently the reporter just needed a high foot traffic background while she discussed her story. He did not offer me a Xanax or a story that confirms to the viewing audience we have no exposure to the virus AND we already complying with the mask ordinance AND also, that Jeanne uses more bleach at PJP than the average commercial kitchen uses in a year.

And then when I went to workout tonight at Rho Engine Room, another news station was there filming footage for a story about people exercising during the pandemic and the new masking requirement. So now I’m on the news AGAIN, just sweating and looking like I need a water break and a lighter set of arm weights. I’m really winning at the media exposure this week. Ahem.

For the trifecta of headache Inducing events, the tax accountant fired off a round of questions via text 30 minutes ago that I really couldn’t answer because they required more math skills and patience than I have. And that is a shame because taxes are due next week. At this point, 2020 is such a dumpster fire that the IRS should give us all a pass on filing anything until next year when we are a more hopeful, less distracted group of taxpayers. (Though, on second thought, who the heck knows when that will happen.)
