A Sighting
Of all things I did today, I mostly deserve a White House medal of honor for explaining to Jeanne exactly what an acai bowl is…and encouraging her to try it. As you might guess, she had never heard of acai in general, much less blended up in a bowl and covered with fruit, granola, coconut flakes, and peanut butter drizzle. She thought acai bowl was one word - acaibowl - for at least five minutes. And when she tried it, she spit it in the trash because she hates all fruit (except for grapes that eventually become wine). I have no idea how she doesn’t have scurvy.
Here’s what else is going on:
Tomorrow is April’s Epic Pie Tasting, so we are always excited to see how our planned flavors work out and for the feedback from our 80 ticket holders. This tasting sold out really quickly, but for whatever reason, I didn’t finalize the recipe list until late this afternoon. And then I went to Hyvee to source all the weird ingredients that we need and don’t stock at PJP since we don’t regularly make those flavors. I can’t tell you what made the cashier look at me weird until everyone has enjoyed their tasting and we have results.
Our May pie of the month is Dreamsicle - it won the March tasting and is basically the same concept as lemon cream but with orange juice instead of lemon juice. There’s also a healthy dose of orange concentrate in the heavy whipping cream. It’s delicious.
And Friday is our Quiche Unleashed event. In short, all frozen quiche are on sale all day Friday. The baby quiche will be priced at $8 and the nine inch quiche will be priced at $18. No coupon code is needed, but they are available first come, first serve and not available for pre-order. Both stores will be well stocked.
Then April will be over and May is always the most fun month with graduations, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. Jason, the kids, and I will actually be gone for the end of next week, leaving Jeanne in charge. Honestly, that might challenge Quiche Unleashed in terms of interesting events.
In the most surprising turn of events, I saw a security car today at PJP Nifong for the first time in nine years. And that’s interesting because we’ve paid several thousand a year in our Common Area Maintenance charges for a security guard…but I’ve always sworn the security guard doesn’t actually exist. But today, finally, a sighting. At this point, we’ve probably paid $40,000 into this particular line item, so this was an expensive five second parking lot tour. I wonder if we pay in another $5,000 if we could have the security guard pass through at 5 am instead of 8 am…
