Jeanne-ology: I'm Hot
Hi There! This week has flown by, despite being much slower post 4th of July holiday. July is typically the second slowest month of our year, so I’ve spent most of my time working away on how to make it NOT the second slowest month of the year. Welcome to entrepreneurship, where there are never clear answers to anything. Jeanne has a lot to say this week (actually, I think I’ve driven her a little crazy these past few days.). Enjoy - Rebecca

Hello Thursday readers! Another week has passed and the heat is too much! Working in a bakery brings on its own heat problems. No matter how cool the temperature for the air conditioner, you just can't avoid standing in front of four hot ovens pulling out trays of pies. (Rebecca editing to add: True. Also, one of the four ovens is always explicitly hotter than the other three, despite being set on the same temperature. Sounds right.)
No matter what I may look like when I start working, by mid morning my hair is limp from humidity. Maybe I should start wearing wigs. My hair would look fresh and styled all day long. When I was very young, I worked as a manager for a wig company. I enjoyed my job helping customers try on wigs and I have an affinity for them to this day. It is hard for me to pass up hair pieces and when we were in Atlanta earlier this year, several booths were selling beautiful hair pieces. Rebecca can attest that I wanted all of them! (Rebecca editing to add: I will attest to this. It is a very on brand for Jeanne and one of my favorite fun facts.)
I have been helping with the baking and when the schedule is complete, I am ready to leave. Rebecca tells me there is number of issues that she wants to discuss with me. I usually sit and listen and help as much as I can, but most of the things she brings us is administrative in nature and I usually defer to her decision. She knows what is best and I think she uses me as a sounding board. (Rebecca editing to add: I like her advice and input! You just have to capture her first.)
Rebecca has brought us farther than I thought possible and she has big dreams. She is like a dog with a bone and is constantly pushing us forward. I am proud to see her persistence! By the time half the day is gone, all I can think of is getting home and putting on my lounging clothes! To be able to cool off and not be near a hot oven! Maybe when October gets here, I will welcome the heat at the pie shop and be able spend more time on administrative stuff. (Rebecca editing to add: Dog with a bone? Fair. I’m pretty relentless in my focus on PJP and I know it takes all her energy and focus to linger around and watch me overanalyze. Maybe I should keep a set of her lounging clothes in the office.)
