Maybe HGTV Will Read This

Today, Jason, the kids, and I went to St. Louis and spent five hours with a real estate agent to look at a long list of commercial listings for a potential PJP. It was basically an overblown and extended version of House Hunters. (Which actually House Hunters: Commercial Leaseholds is a killer idea. HGTV, please call me. I have reality television experience. Ahem.)

Jeanne originally planned to go with us today, but then saw the list of properties and realized It was a day long event and decided she would stay home. And I thought to myself several times during the day that she would have enjoyed some parts of the day but hated even more parts of the day, so she made the right decision.

We looked at everything from Chesterfield Valley to Des Peres to Town and Country to Hanley Road in St. Louis proper (just outside Richmond Heights). On a few occasions, we pulled into the parking lot and unanimously voted to keep driving. And on a few occasions, we unanimously voted to stop and go in for a tour of the space.

After finishing with our agent, we went back to the one we liked most and we went into the store next door, found the owner, and basically interviewed her about the good and the bad of the space. I never considered that I would become the sort of person who does that, but here we are. I don’t know if I should be happy or freaked out.

That said, after the drive home, we had all some existential crisis along the theme of WHAT ARE WE DOING AND WHY ARE WE DOING IT. Charming.

I’ll hit on all the questions that will come our way by saying the location is in the Chesterfield area and we have no definitive timeline. And it’s safe to say that we still have 90% of the details to work out, which is always where the devil is. We have absolutely no idea if we will proceed or not, but I can’t leave it all out of the blog because this is the whole story of who we are. Whatever happens, this is an important part of our long game. Plus, maybe HGTV will read this.
