Oh No
So, it’s National Small Business Week…and Teacher Appreciation Week…and the week before Mother’s Day…and the week before the first round of Mizzou graduations. So basically, we were the sort of busy where you think it is around 2 in the afternoon and look up and it is actually 5:15 in the early evening. (And that is in my top five favorite things about PJP because I’ve had a job or two in the past where I sat with my purse on my desk and watched the clock roll over from 4:59pm to 5:00pm before bolting out the door. 0 out of 10 stars: would not recommend.)
We have so many things going on at PJP that I don’t even know where to start. Let’s knock out at least five items for discussion tonight:
PJP West End is progressing nicely…though I’ve been a part of many conversations lately about how many feet our front counter will set from the front door. And you might think that no one really cares (because I don’t), but as it turns out, the landlord, the city, and a few other people are VERY invested. It currently sets 12.5 feet from the front door at PJP Nifong, but there was some speculation that PJP West End would have a requirement that it set 15 feet from the front door. And if you ever need to look up a definition of bureaucracy, please just read the above paragraph.
Oh, and before I forget, tickets to May’s Epic Pie Tasting are available online right now. And It seriously just occurred to me that we will have to figure out how to do pie tasting at both stores. I’m not even sure how to approach that (though luckily big decisions without a lot of planning are my strong suit).
I’ve read that the city plans to let all current COVID health orders expire next week. Does this mean we can have pie tastings in person again? (Who knows, right? And after front counter distance tussles, I’m too afraid to ask. But I’m hopeful.)
Our super secret project that took us away for all of April may be revealed next week. I get very little discretionary control over the announcement, but once given all the clear, I’m going to have the most compelling set of blog posts ever for you.
And finally, I was selected for participation in the SBA Emerging Leaders group. It is a government program to help accelerate the growth of high potential small businesses (their words, not mine). It’s a long course, with graduation set right before Thanksgiving. By the end, I should have a better idea of how to successful open and manage multiple PJPs. They even sent me a lovely gift box with a ring light and a journal…and a book about understanding and utilizing financial statements. OH NO. I love big ideas, but lack skills for attention-to-detail math. Actually, I bet our accountant just read this paragraph and fell off her chair laughing. Gulp.
