Pro Tip

Well, after a rare long weekend, we were back at it today at PJP. As a rule, I work at PJP six days a week and so to have a two day weekend of Sunday and Monday felt LIKE A DREAM. Hopefully, you saw our picture of Jeanne and her twin sister Janie on our social media this weekend. They had a lovely weekend visit to celebrate their birthday this week.

Today, we kicked our game plan for PJP West End into high gear. We are nearing a mid-September date for possession and it is time to get our ducks in a row. Here’s a rundown:

  1. Our kitchen equipment has been on order since June. Our ovens should arrive on October 8th and then a very large (and expensive) semi-truck of equipment will arrive from Care Sales and Service in Camdenton to be placed in PJP West End. Pro Tip: Ensure your bid for all of your very expensive equipment includes the charge to carry in the equipment and unbox it. We learned the hard way that equipment left on the front doorstep in a wooden crate is a logistical nightmare.

  2. We spent a staggering amount today on a downpayment for our exterior signage, with the anticipated production time at six to eight weeks. This timeline put Jason into a tailspin, but since I once opened a store with no signage at all, I was pretty chill. Pro tip: Order a sign. And order it early. Otherwise, you will have a banner. And a grouchy husband.

  3. We also committed to a new pie display to be custom built by Joseph Eultgen Woodworking. And look, he has plans for our pie display that will make it taller and more beautiful than you can guess. But the real story is that he built the chair for Pope John Paul II’s visit to St. Louis. I couldn’t even focus on our pie display because I had so many questions, namely WHERE DO ALL THESE VISITING CHAIRS GO? (They stay at the monsignor’s house, which makes more sense than a huge room in the Vatican full of chairs from the Pope’s visit around the world.). At any rate, the display unit for PJP West End should be ready mid-October(ish) and then we will also get a new one for PJP Nifong. Pro Tip: Pick a craftsman with an interesting backstory and then you won’t think about all the money you are spending, because you will be quizzing him about random famous woodworking projects.
