Weird.
So here we are at the end of February and it has been simultaneously both the shortest and longest month of my life, if that makes sense? Let’s talk about all the random things happening at both stores:
We now have 34 people on staff. It’s a veritable clown car of employment at PJP. There’s so many of us - and I’m not complaining. It takes a lot of people to keep two stores open six days a week.
We are hosting a giveaway over on our social media pages of a four-pack of our Pecan Pie Porter beer from our collaboration with Logboat Brewing, so be sure to enter by the end of the day tomorrow. We are celebrating almost 11,000 friends on Facebook. That’s a veritable clown car of friends, now that I think. about it.
Last week, Nifong hosted the February Epic Pie Tasting. We did a baked strawberry pie that ranked as the favorite from the 12 flavor menu. And when I tell you the least favorite, you won’t be surprised: a Ritz cracker pie that was basically a meringue with the addition of pulverized Ritz crackers. It was flavorless - yet oddly flavored - all at once. I’ll stick to the Ritz crackers straight from the sleeve, thanks.
National Pi(e) Day is in just a few weeks. Historically, we’ve taken $3.14 off all dessert pies for the entire day and this year will be no different - just in two locations. It will be our first test run at a big event in two stores, so let’s just be thankful that it is a fun event like Pi(e) Day and not the high stakes of Thanksgiving.
I was recently interviewed on the ABC World News Tonight about the rising costs of ingredients - like the national news that everyone in America watches. WEIRD. At any rate, pecan suppliers from all over the United States are sending us pecan samples because I took specific grievance with the 60% increase in pecans in just a week from our food broker. When I was a kid in gym class, I was routinely picked very last to join a team…and now I have my pick of pecan suppliers from every state you can imagine. Who says good things don’t come to those that wait???
